Section 2, 'Registration and Access,' sets one minimum-age rule for the entire Service: a user 'must be at least 13 years old or the minimum age required in your country,' and a 'teenager between the ages of 13 and 17 years old' needs a 'parent or legal guardian's permission,' with the guardian agreeing to the Terms and accepting responsibility for the minor's use.

What the evidence says

As with the company's Privacy Policy, the Terms of Service never mention Ani, Rudy, or a 'companion' category; the age rule that applies to a 13-year-old using Grok for homework help is the same rule that applies to a 13-year-old, with parental sign-off, opening a chat with a companion persona built around affection and roleplay. The document itself acknowledges the tension: it states the company has 'taken measures to limit undesirable training data and outputs,' but that depending on 'which modes the user purposely selects,' the Service 'may have content such as some suggestive dialogue, coarse language, crude humor, sexual situations, or violence.' SpaceXAI's separate Privacy Policy applies the identical, undifferentiated data terms to that same age-gated account. A parent who agrees to let a 13-to-17-year-old use Grok is, under the Terms, accepting responsibility for 'all use of the Service' by that minor, without a separate, more restrictive consent step for companion personas specifically. The Terms ask the platform to self-declare a minimum age and ask families to enforce it themselves; there is no described identity or age-verification check beyond a user 'confirming' they meet the requirement.

Privacy and safeguards

What is disclosed: an explicit 13-plus floor, a parental-permission requirement for 13-to-17-year-olds, and an acknowledgement that some modes may surface sexual or suggestive material. What is not disclosed: any companion-specific age floor, content filter, or verification step distinguishing Ani or Rudy from the rest of Grok.
